As an icon of unity and development in the great lakes region, it is a pleasure that such a commemoration is organized in his honor as acknowledgement and appreciation of the efforts early African leaders played in organizing the African people into kingdoms and chiefdoms in order to work together for development.

What made Omukama Cwa II Kabalega a hero and endeared him to his people in both the good times, and times of adversity was that he refused to betray his people on several occasions when external forces advanced their interest for him to surrender the sovereignty of Bunyoro-Kitara, and additionally, his ability to unite people of different tribes from far and wide into the Bunyoro-Kitara precolonial nation, enabling them to all participate in nation building equitably based on merit.

I admire the courageous, patriotic, and great nationalistic mind that Omukama Kabalega espoused. Reflecting on is visionary leadership, the people of Bunyoro-Kitara and Ugandans at large have a huge debt to pay to Omukama Kabalega by promoting unity, embracing Pan-Africanism and nationalism, learning to sacrifice, and working together for the common good of society.
